San Simeon injured

NZPA Perth The champion West Australian pacer, San Simeon, will be scratched from the Australian Pacing Championships in Sydney next month after injuring himself in a stable incident. Margaret Austin, wife of the trainer, Lou Austin, said the horse received a knock in a hind leg and her husband was not going to take any chances with him. “There’s a bit of swelling and a bit of heat in it,” she said. Mrs Austin confirmed a report by the West Australian Trotting Association chief, Mr Ross Pyke, that San Simeon had been withdrawn from a $150,000 match race at Gloucester Park, Perth, on Friday night. San Simeon was to have raced Pure Steel. However, she was hopeful he would be able to compete in the Benson and Hedges Cup, worth $lOO,OOO, at Gloucester Park in December and January. The pacer was also being set for the $160,000 InterDominion Championships in Perth in March.
