Wallabies protected
PA Auckland Australians hoping for a first-hand glimpse of one of their native varieties of wallabies in the wild will soon get a chance—in New Zealand. The Hauraki Gulf Maritime Park Board plans to build an enlosure on Kawau Island this year to help pro-
tect endangered parma wallabies. . Kawau is only place left in the world with* a population of parma wallabies in a natural state. Zoologists believed parmas were extinct until the colony was discovered on the island several years ago. Since then, shooting of all wallabies has forbidden on Kawau.
