Soccer should be entertaining

Apart from providing a second good look at Christchurch Mogal United's newcomer from Britain, Paul Wilkinson, and giving Woolston W.M.C. the opportunity to show what might have been, little can be expected from these two clubs in their Rothmans League match at

English Park this evening. Woolston is already relegation bound; United cannot expect more than a midtable placing. It should be an occasion for both teams to throw off all inhibitions and set out to entertain the public as best they can.

Neither team was happy with the 0-0 result at Queen Elizabeth II Park earlier in the season — Woolston because it believed it had a good goal disallowed and United because it thought it had done enough to win comfortably.

Both sides will be below strength, but both have players seeking to establish themselves for next season. Wilkinson has already done that, by his performance last Sunday against Rangers; and the two young full-backs, lan France and Mike Howard, will again hope to impress their coach, Terry Conley.

Woolston’s hopes of putting great pressure on United’s shuffled defence have., been partly undermined by the absence of. Mike Poole, injured. and Keith Francis, suspended. The curtain-raiser' at 6 p.m. will be between the Canterbury under 18 side and a United Select XI.
