Dangerous cyclists

Sir,—?yir A. Goldsmith in reply to my letter of July 19 touches on one point only — prosecution of cyclists with no lights. The whole point I am trying to make is that unless they drive a car as well, most cyclists have never heard of the road rules and simply ride by guess and by gambling. Saying that the Road Code is

“readily available from any office of the Ministry of Transport” is no answer. The 10speedsters are not likely to go hunting for this information. I am begging for children to be taught by traffic officers at their schools as they used to be, and for pamphlets to be made available with every new bicycle sold — outlining the rider's responsibilities regarding other traffic.—Yours, etc., M. M. G. MATSON. August 3, 1981.
