PA Wellington The percentage of export earnings paid in interest on New Zealand’s foreign debt since 1962 had trebled by 1980, said the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) yesterday. Answering a written question by the Social Credit leader, Mr Beetham, Mr Muldoon said the interest as a percentage of exports in 1962 was 2 per cent, or $11.7 million. By 1980 the official debt interest payments had risen to $303.7 million, or 6.1 per cent of export receipts. However, an improvement was shown for the year ended March 31, 1981.
