Ashburton hockey win

The Ashburton under-17 boys hockey team has given the Ashburton association something to celebrate in its fiftieth anniversary year. It won the South Island tournament at Porritt Park yesterday. Ashburton beat Canterbury in their vital match on Sunday,'and had a narrow 4-3 win against Nelson yesterday to secure the, title. Canterbury finished with a 100 win against South Canterbury.

The outstanding plaver in the Canterbury side, and at the tournament, was John Radovonich, who was selected in the New Zealand junior team a week ago. He scored 25 of the 38 goals netted by Canterbury. Yesterday’s results were: Otago 2, Marlborough 1; Ashburton 4, Nelson. 3; Canterbury 10,-South Canterbury O.C . Final ; points: Ashburton 9, Canterbury 8. Marlborough 5, Otago 4, Nelson' and ' South Canterbury 2.
