Hockey to Canty

Canterbury completed the national under 21 women's hockey finals at Hospital Corner yesterday jnorning with a perfect record. It beat Manawatu 3-0 in its final game. Canterbury finished four points clear of Otago in second place, and yesterday •Wellington upset Auckland 21 to finish third equal with Manawatu on three points. Auckland was left in fifth place with two points. Canterbury was a better organised side than its opponents, but there was little to choose between the other four teams. Canterbury was a goal up against Manawatu after five minutes. Jane Earnshaw, the left-wing, figured in a passing movement up the left

flank and completed it with a push from a wide angle. It was late in the half before Canterbury’s second goal came. Alison Sutherland collected a pass near the 25m line and made a strong run through the centre to. score. Play was scrappy in the second-half with both sides making a number of errors. Canterbury’s goal-keeper, Anne Jopsdn, made a fine save of a penalty stroke with an outstretched stick. Both teams had a host of chances to score from field play and corners, but poor trapping and shooting spoilt most. Results:— Canterbury 3 (A. Sutherland 2, J. Earnshaw), Manawatu 0; Wellington 2 (R. Ross, D. Julian), Auckland 1 (P. Lawson).
