Desks damaged in school fire

Arsonists caused only minor damage to desks after breaking into the technical drawing room at Hornby High School in Hei Hei on Sunday evening or early Monday morning. The smouldering fire was discovered by the school’s groundsman at 8.45 a.m. ye-, sterday. The arsonists had broken a window to get in, and set fire to a teacher's desk.

The principal (Mr A. E. L. Britton) said the damage was confined to the desks, al-

though the room had been damaged by smoke. He suspected that children were responsible. The fire was being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau yesterday. Two rooms and the roof of a flat at 161 Deans Avenue were damaged moderately in a fire at 6.30 a.m. yesterday. Two fire appliances from the Sockburn and central fire

stations attended the blaze, and were at the scene for about an hour and a half.
