Foreign legion.

Sir,—l am regrettably Of. the opinion that there is no such unit as a New Zealand Foreign Legion. Despite having served with the Australian Army and the Dutch Marines (equivalent to the New Zealand Special-Air Service; i.e. paratroopers whatever) a colleague was refused “entry to the New Zealand Army on the groundsthat he .would not offer total allegiance to the British Sovereign; in effect refusing to surrender his Dutch nationality.. It’s enough to make 22 of the world’s nations see - red, white and blue. I can appreciate the mentality he was up against having defended the empire as a young man, but I shall spare the reader an anxious moment. If there is any truth to the maxim that you are what you eat then the French Army with its Foreign Legion is surely at least one jump ahead of the rest of the world. — Yours, etc., R. FRANCIS NAYLOR.
