Lipinsky’s socialism

Sir,—The replies (May 29) to M. Creel’s letter seem to show a grotesque misunderstanding of Soviet and socialist realities. S. Mallory’s lurid and fictitious portrait.of life in a socialist State would be better applied to life in a few other, very definitely non - sociaiist States. Alan Reynolds’s reference to the average age of the Politburo members could perhaps have included the word “venerable.” The ideological guidance that the Politburo represents (Lenin’s ‘drop in the ocean of the people ) requires age and experience. Western devaluation of the “senior citizen” is not admirable. Alan Reynolds refers to “human nature” as if such a thing invalidates socialist principles. On the contrary "human nature” is educable and itself evolves with the evolution of ■socialist society.—Yours, etc., K. FEA. May 29, 1981.
