Public v. private

Sir,-I thank Mr Willens for his reply (May 26). I am definitely in favour of private enterprise. However, private enterprise probably used a.grea. deal of that $90,000,000 spent on the railways. It was spent by all the employees at hotels (privately owned), in supermarkets (privately owned) and so on. The wastage comes when the money is spent overseas on fuel and imported components. The most important saving that could be made is in the reduction of imported fuels and. materials, so that all aspects of inefficient transport should be removed, including local buses which are frequently seen running without any pas-, sengers.—Yours, etc.,. CHRIS CHASTON. . May 26, 1981.
