Methanol go-ahead
PAWelljngton An Order-in-Couneil effectively giving consent for the construction and running of the Petralgas methanol plant to be built at Tikorangi, near Waitara, Taranaki, has been issued under the National Development Act. The Minister of National Development (Mr Birch) said the order, which will come into effect tomorrow, would provide rights for the plant to extract water from the
Waitara River and the consents to use the site were in line with recommendations of the Planning Tribunal. He said Petralgas would still need to obtain consent under the Petroleum Act to build pipelines to carry gas or methanol. “Care has been taken to ensure that the Order-in-Council gives effect to the recommendations of the Planning Tribunal,” Mr Birch said. "All the recommendations are provided for without alteration.”
