Concern over veto
PA Wellington The Committee for Freedom of Information is concerned about a recommendation in the Danks Report favouring Ministerial power of veto over the release of information. In a letter sent to all Parliamentarians the committee says the principles expressed in the Danks Report support the widest possible access to official
information, but the procedures recommended would allow procrastination and delay. It says recommended exemptions concerning the release of information are too broad, creating uncertainty for public servants, and delays. The importance of providing information within a specified time has been ignored, the committee says.
