Sponsorship cancelled
PA Rotorua Gary Hubbard, New Zealand’s entry in the Asian Song Quest, has had his sponsorship cancelled by Television New Zealand. On the eve of his departure to Hong Kong for the quest, which will be held on Sunday, the Rotorua-born singer w T as told by the head of entertainment of TV2, Mr Tom Parkinson, that budget cuts had erased New Zealand's entry. Hubbard still expects to
leave Auckland this afternoon with his musical arranger, Bernie Allan. “I have not given up. I still expect to go somehow,” he said yesterday. He could not afford to pay for the trip, but after .talking to ZB’s radio talk-back host, Mr Jim Smith, he was still hopeful. "Tom Parkinson has affirmed that the organisers are still holding my entry open but it will be a tense dav.” ■
