Four Crowns to run on Saturday
NZPA Sydney The Foxton gelding, Four Crowns, will have his first Australian run. in the 2200 m P. J. O’Shea Stakes at Eagle Farm, Brisbane, on Saturday.
The five-year-old is aiming for the $lOO,OOO Brisbane Cup (3200 m to be run on June 8, for which he is currently rated a 14 to 1 chance. Four • Crowns, by Acharacle, is trained by Dave Enright at Foxton and had the best of his nine wins so far when he took the Allrounder Handicap at Avondale last November. ’
Saturday’s weight-for-age race is a main 'lead-up to the Brisbane Cup and other cup hopefuls are expected to run, including New Zealanders, Shivaree and My Aruthusa.
The New Zealand jockey, Jimmy Cassidy, is expected to arrive in Brisbane on Thursday 'to ride Four Crowns in the O’Shea stakes and then the Brisbane Cup. Four Crowns has also been entered for the $lOO,OOO Doomben Cup (2200 m on July 11, as have Shivaree, Shamrock and My Arethusa.
Mun Lee dropped in favouritism for the Brisbane Cup after her trainer, Malcolm Smith, decided against entering her in the O’Shea Smith has said it was likely that Mun Lee would go into the Cup, raced at Eagle Farm, without another run, if she started at all. ■
He had said earlier that there was “some chance” Mun Lee could miss the Brisbane Cup to concentrate on the shorter staying events of the Queensland winter carnival.
In the latest Brisbane Cup markets, the outstanding filly, November Rain, heads favouritism at 4 to 1 with My Aruthusa and Shivaree on the second line at 5 to 1 and Mun Lee dropping to the third line at 6 to 1.
