Duck movements
Sir;—So your correspondent, M. Hodgson (May 22), wants to bring apartheid to our river. He recommends that all black ducks wearing white collars be blasted from the surface of our Avon. The matriarch of the black and white family he refers to is also a frequent and welcome visitor to our Fendalton lawn. Five years ago we affectionately referred to her as “The Vicar” until she arrived one morning with a family of mulattos. The "Deaconess” still visits our reach of the river as do two blonde ducks, many mallard, greys and halfbreds. All have their own personalities. All make their own contribution to our city's most priceless asset. Let's keep our Avon River the way God made it and not the way M. Hodgson wants it.—Yours, etc., D. J. SCOTT. May 22. 1981.
