W.E.L. defends rights act
PA Wellington The New Zealand Women’s Electoral Lobby is opposing any “watering-down” of the Human Rights Act because it does not think the act provides enough protection now. “The legislation must not be watered down just because the odd employer is inconvenienced,” said W.E.L.’s national co-ordina-tor, Danna Glendenning. “Either we are going to have protection of human rights or we are not.” The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) had said on that he would support the Christchurch garage owner, Mr Eric Sides, in his demand for changes to the Human Rights Act.
