Band vetoes rugby
The Skellerup Woolston Brass Band has informed the Canterbury Rugby Union, that it will not be available to play at either the Canterbury-Scotland game on June 6 or the South African test in Christchurch on August 15. The information was contained in a letter received by the unions management committee at its meeting last evening. The letter stated that a vote had been taken among the band's membership. Later Mr V. C. Thomas reported that a band had been secured for the Scotland game, and another had offered its services.
A letter was received from the Hornby club telling of a secret ballot among its members on the Springbok tour issue. There was 98 per cent support for the tour. K. Price, a Linwood senior B player ordered off last Saturday for jumping on an opponent, was suspended until after May 30. It was important, he said, that everyone realised that this was a ticket only game.
