Student injured

A Malaysian student at the University of Canterbury is in a good condition in the Grey Hospital with a bruised back and exposure, after he and six companions were : swept about 200 metres down a flooded Hawdon River, in the Arthur’s Pass National Park on Monday. The student is Teo Su Kian, aged 21. The party of seven stii-' - dents were trying to cross

the Hawdon — a tributary of the Waimakariri River — when the mishap occurred. All managed to clamber out Of the river, with two helping. National Park Board rangers- wrapped him in a survival blanket and took him across the river in a stretcher, where the Otira rescue vehicle took him to Greymouth.
