Lamb rise predicted
Another rise in export lamb prices to farmers was predicted by a spokesman for a Christchurch exporter yesterday after British market prices rose. The Press Association has reported that North Island farmers were reaping high prices for lamb in a competitive scramble among meat exporters. Most North Island companies are paying aboveschedule premiums.
At the end of last week Farmers Meat Export. Ltd, Auckland, announced prices substantially higher than the main export schedule rate, including an 11c per kg rise on the main PM grade, which was not increased in the main schedule. Borthwicks also announced prices 17c per kg higher on all grades than the main exporters’ schedule, including 132 c per kg for the PM grades .
