NZPA-Reuter Morza In a close finish to yesterday’s 500 cc Italian Grand Prix Graeme Crosby, of New Zealand, riding a Suzuki, failed to beat the reigning world champion, Kenny Roberts, of the United States, by just four seconds. Roberts, riding a Yamaha, covered the course in 52min 2.1 s for an average speed of 160.507 k.p.h.

Third behind Crosby was Britain’s former world champion, Barry Sheene, on a Yamaha. A Dutchman, Boet van Dulmen, on a Yamaha, was fourth and the local favourite, Marco Luchinelli, on a Suzuki was fifth. After four events this season Crosby lies in third place on the world championship table behind Roberts, and his Suzuki team-mate, Randy Mamola.
