Boniface heads orienteers
Graham Boniface narrowly beat Aiex Cook for first place in the A course event at the Peninsula and Plains Orienteering Club's competition at Saddle Road. More than 90 people, including . many newcomers, competed in fine weather and this helped stimulate performances. Competition was particularly hard in the A and B courses. Boniface had 34sec to spare from • Cook in the A course, but R. Hopkins was a mere second clear of M. Goodliffe at the top of the B course. The C course honours went to a beginner. Dave Macßae, with Justine Donald second. A team of girls from Rangi Ruru school which had completed and won the novice course, also took third place in the C course. By a strange coincidence, a mother and son, Elaine and Owen
Carson, who competed separately in the novice course, finished in exactly the same time to take third equal placing. Haglcy Park is the venue for this Sunday s promotion event for beginners. Registration will be at the Hagley Sports Centre entrance, between 10.30 am. anti 1.30 pm. Results;— A course. -G. Boniface. 44 05, 1: A. Cook. 44.39. 2; D. Laurie. 46:07. 3; D. Guest. 51:40. and M.
