Direct air link ‘successful’

NZPA Canberra The direct air link between Hobart and Christchurch had been successful and there was every reason to believe it would continue, the Minister of Transport (Mr Ralph Hunt) has said. He said discussions were under way with airline representatives, but retention of the service would be subject to approval by New Zealand. He believed the service

would continue to grow and provide for increased tourism development between the two countries.

Mr Hunt said discussions were continuing on what additional facilities would be needed to handle a growing traffic with New Zealand and “one day perhaps” to other countries. Ansett and T.A.A. were quite happy to continue the service, subject to approval by New Zealand, he said.
