Trial shipment of steaming coal

The 35,000-tonne shipment is in addition to an estimated 250,000 tonnes of Buller coking coal which is to be exported this year to Japanese steel-making firms. The steaming coal will be delivered for an electric power company. and. if it is found to be satisfactory, the company plans to import about 200,0C0 tonnes each year under a long-term contract.' Steaming coal such as that being sent to Kanematsugosha is rapidly being regarded through, out the world as the prime alternative energy source. World demand for such coal, and its handling and .transport problems, will be major areas for discussion at the first world conference on the trade to be held in September in London.
