Anderson hits home run
Lindsay Anderson celebrated his return to the Burnside team after a three-week absence with a big home run in senior men’s softball at Papanui Domain on Wednesday evening.; . The New Zealand third baseman, back after his outstanding four-test series against Peterbilt, led off for Burnside with his homer in the first innings and the team went on to an easy 7-0 win over Richmond. Burnside extracted seven this off the opposition’s pitching with Alan Hall unlucky to be restricted to a two-bagger when one hit cleared the dirt pile way out at left field.. Hall took 10 strokeouts and the only hit he conceded was picked up by Andrew Sinclair late in the game. On the skin diamond A.G.C. United • had . a 6-3 win, over Papanui which started to show batting form a little too late.- Two
of Papanui’s runs came in the last two innings one, of them after Michael Bishop and Geoff Roberts strung together hits in the seventh. United had already more or less clinched the win with its batting onslaught in the bottom of the second innings. The team went through the batting order, took three hits in succession- off Tom Hurunui’s pitching, and chalked up five runs for a 6-1 lead. Roberts then replaced Huruniii on the mound and United was shut out thereafter. David Bradbury took seven strike-outs for United and gave up four hits wliile Roberts (2) and Hurunui (4) conceded six hits between- them. Bryan Mountford was the top batter on either side with two hits out of three. Points: Burnside 46, United .40, Western Suburbs 24. Lyttelton 22, Papanui 20, RichAiond 4.
