Hornby won the corresponding contest 12 months ago, but slipped to seventh in the premiership and lost to Kaiapoi in a play-off for seventh and eighth positions in the championship.
The tournament seedings have been taken from the 1979 premiership and Hornby will have its first match against a junior club, Parklands, on March 22. On the same afternoon Kaiapoi meets Woolston or Shirley. Opening , games in the tournament, between Addihgton and Halswell and Linwood and Riccarton, have beep scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, March 18. The top four sides from
last winter. Eastern Suburbs. Marist-Western Suburb, Papanui and Sydenham, have byes until the second round That will be played on March 25 and 29, the semifinals are set for April 1 and the final on April 5.
As a new innovation the Canterbury Rugby League will run an inter-club sprint and relay championship during the three Wednesday nights of the knock-out series.
