Caparo, Kwickasair in fine semi-final trials
Special correspondent Invercargill Caparo and Kwickasair indicated they are in good order for the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Southland meeting on Saturday, when they worked stylishly at Invercargill yesterday. Both provided fine semifinal gallops in warm conditions 12m out on a firm course proper. Caparo which easily won the Waimate Cup in fast time at his last start, worked over 2000 m quickening from the 800 m accompanied by Corrie Guy, in 52s and the last 600 m in 375. Kwickasair ran strongly over 1800 m in company with Lady Carolyn.- They quick-
ened from the 800 m in 51.3 s and came the last 600 m in 38.35, Kwickasair going better at the finish. Ebony Prince a winner two starts back from the flat, looked in good shape to contest the Southern Brush Hurdles when he led his stablemates, Red Ro and Mhorgold, by two lengths at the end of 2000 m. Ebony Prince was timed to run his closing 800 m in 53.55. River Town, a last start winner at Gore, worked solo over 800 m in 51s, the closing 600 m in 38.85. Ahbonito worked well over 800 m in 50.45, the last 600 m in 37.45. He was going easily at the finish. War Ruler and Colonel
Proctor, in-form stablemates for the Riverton Handicap, ran the last 600 m of their work in 38.45. Cilla’s Charm, which seems more settled now, dashed over 800 m in 495, the closing 600 m in 37.25. Hoyden’s solo 800 m took 51.55, the last 600 m in 37.35. Lamont, Justivari and Our Charlotte worked over 1800 m, quickening from the 1000 in Imin 3.8 s and being joined by a ' three-year-old Noble Bijou filly, in Ray Pankhurst’s team, ■ for the last 600 m in 395. Tumeric looked well when she worked over 800 m in 525, the last 600 m in 39s in company with Sovereign Luck.
