Last day of paid surf patrols

This season’s paid surf patrols at Christchurch beaches will end today. Mr G. Le Cren of the Canterbury Surf Life-saving Association, said yesterday that the patrols had had a “reasonably'’ busy season with an occasional very heavy day.” • The patrols’, job was a preventive one which they had performed well, as there had been no drowning or serious rescue off ChristIchurch beaches. The association will hold ! its annual street day appeal ;in Christchurch today. • - Few swimmers braved the cooler weather yesterday to go to the beaches and those who did had to contend with blue-bottle*. Mr Le Cren said. Several bathers were stung by the jelly fish but there was no serious incident, he said.
