Experiments using animals
Sir, — The Rev. Brian Turner (November 25) asserts that Church leaders are speaking out strongly on the need for overseas aid and more enlightened
foreign policy. That is as may be. One subject that they have not spoken oat strongly or otherwise upon is anti-vivisection. There has been considerable evidence and discussion lately in dailv and weekly publications of the injustice animals have suffered and are suffering in the laboratories of medical and industrial research, and there is a growing revulsion to this exploitation both in New Zealand and overseas. I suggest the Church leaders should give their support vocally and otherwise to this growing voice of concern for animal justice, which must be in the best tradition of Christian compassion. — Yours, etc.. J. SHARP. November 26, 1980.
