‘Maoris should decide’
Maoris alone should decide whether to retain, expand, or abolish Maori . representation in Parliament, the plenary session of the Three Nations conference, 'held recently in ;Christchurch, has resolved. The conference gave support to a call for the protection of Maori land, language, and cultural rights. Maori and Aboriginal people asked for Europeans to work for the elimination of white racism and oppression, and to help indigenous people gain financial independence and the freedom to run their own affairs. The conference resolved to support these demands. It also endorsed action by trade unions in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand to further basic union rights in Asian and Pacific countries, provided this did not compromise the independence of these unions. It affirmed the need for secure union rights for women, migrants, and indigenous people in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
