Sutcliffe to play again
Special correspondent A former New Zealand cricket captain, Bert Sutcliffe, aged 57, has accepted an expenses-paid invitation to play in a match in Calcutta in January to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Cricket Association of BenMr Sutcliffe, who has been described by the 8.8.C.’s Christopher MartinJenkins as probably the best left-handed batsman of his generation in the world, will
play for the overseas ex-test players XI against an Indian ex-test players XI. The Indians have much cause to remember the 57-year-old Mr Sutcliffe. He was opening batsman in all five tests when he first toured India in 1955, amassing 611 runs for a test average of 87.28, and for more than a decade his 230 not out (in nine hours) in the third test in New Delhi, remained the highest score by a New Zealander in test cricket,
