Heart unit referrals
. Sir, — About two weeks ago a Christchurch cardiologist criticised the Dunedin Hospital cardiac unit. As one who required medical attention in the unit in June I can only praise those responsible for the attention I received. During my time in the unit one of the patients had come from Napier. Asked why he did not go to Auckland or Wellington, he replied: “Why wait 12 months when I can come down and get this attention.” It was pleasing to read in the “Otago Daily Times” (October 11) that a group of people in Christchurch had seen fit to stand up and let themselves be counted. To anyone who should unfortunately find themselves in the position of having to undergo cardiac surgery, may I assure them that the medical and nursing staff at Dunedin Hospital are Al. — Yours, etc., J. R. CARLINE.
