Unemployment

Sir, — If I read L. H. Gallagher’s letter (October 15) correctly, she sees any home which has two incomes as fair game for attack. The rights of the individual, especially of married women to carve, careers out for themselves, are of no concern to her. May I suggest to the correspondent that instead of attacking women in the work force that she protest about more relevant issues such as the closing of two of the three schools for dental nurses, the closing of the Southdown works. (1500 jobs lost) or the huge cost to New Zealand involved in subsidising electricity to a second aluminium smelter. The money injected into this last project will create only 1000 jobs but could create far more if put into other projects. — Yours, etc., (Mrs) T. E. MOON. October 20, 1980.
