NZPA-Reuter Katmandu Two New Zealanders climbed the 6856 m Ama Dablam peak in the Everest region of the Nepalese Himalayas on October 18, said the expedition’s leader. Russell Brice, last even-
ing. Mr Brice, aged 28, a mountain guide from Christchurch, and another member of the seven-man Arthur’s Pass expedition, Paddy Freaney, aged 42, reached the summit in low
temperatures and high Winds. Mr Brice said in a message from the mountain that both men suffered mild frostbite to the toes, but all members were in good health and expected to be back in Katmandu at the end of the month.
Messrs Brice and Freaney set up the expedition’s highest camp at 6555 m four days before their summit success and then went on to fix ropes to within 152 m of the summit before the final assault.
