Greg Childs questioned

PA Nw Plymouth Stipendiary Stewards held an inquiry into the performance of Summer Haze, which finished fifth in the Sid Holmes Handicap at Hawera on Saturday.

The official report said Summer Haze began on terms with the field but was allowed to settle towards the rear. In the straight Summer Haze made a forward move but did not produce the finishing run that could have been expected. Hr rider, Greg Childs stated that he wanted to ride the filly off the pace in an endeavour to get her to settle in view of the intention to start her in longer distance later in the season. H said he got the filly to settle and shortly before entering the straight ha got some response from his mount.

However, owing to the tightly packed nature of the field ahead, he was forced to make his run from where he was, racing next to the rails for a position about five horses wide. The result was the filly did not carry on with any sort of finishing run
