Greig wins marathon

Don Greig, the New Zealand marathon champion who runs for the New Brighton club in Christchurch, won the International Nike marathon in West Germany at the weekend. Greig recorded his third best time of 2hr 16min 19s in winning the race, in spite of warm conditions. Greig’s best marathon time is 2hr 14min 495, when he was thirteenth in the Boston marathon last year. Earlier this year in Auckland, he led much of .the

way before fading in the Choysa international marathen, recording 2hr 16min 50s for seventh place, and in March won the national championships in 2hr 17min 8s in Christchurch.
