Indian flood toll 1045

Monsoon floods in i the, North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh have killed 1045 people and: caused .damage to property and crops estimated at $146 million, official reports have said. As ■ well as the deaths caused by the floods — most of them in house collapses, landslides, and boat
tragedies — more than 300 people have died: in cholera and gastro-enteritis- epidemics since the ..floods .began two months ago.’ The reports, quoted by the Press. Trust .of' India, . said that more than' 4 million ha: of agricultural land in. the state had been flooded and more than 835,000 houses destroyed or damaged. The floods are now receding.
