No more time off by teachers
PA Wellington Secondary school pupils will no longer be left withput teachers by the Post-Primary Teachers’ Association compensatory time scheme. More than 170 secondary schools have taken compensatory time at least once since the association introduced the scheme last year to press the Government for staffing improvements. The scheme was called off on Friday, at the association’s annual conference.
Delegates decided to give the Minister of Education (Mr Wellington) “breathing space” to consider a forthcoming staffing working party report. The association’s president (Mr David Baird) said the scheme had been an effective way, for both teachers and pupils, of spreading staff shortages.
