$20,000 bonus
Special correspondent Invercargill Three racing clubs in Southland have combined in an exciting venture for Southland racing and breeding promotion for approach* ing spring meetings. The three clubs involved are the Winton Jockey Club, the Gore Racing Club and the Southland Racing Club and details of the three-year-old promotion were announced at the week-end by the respective club presidents, Messrs Cliff Boyle, David Harvey and Bill Thompson.
Their three feature races for three-year-olds, the Pass-
port Stakes (Winton)’, the Gore Guineas Trial (Gore) and the Southland Guineas (Southland) will carry a bonus stake of $20,000 if one horse can win all three events.
“The three dubs are well aware of the strong support giVen them and feel this promotion will assist breeders to gain confidence in the future of Southland racing for young horses,” the Winton president, Mr Cliff Boyle, said on Saturday.
Nominations for the first of the series, the passport three-year-old stakes, at the Winton meeting, close on September 25.
