Restructuring industry

Sir, — Peter Johnson (August 29) surprises . me. Most of this country’s money supply is created in the private sector by private businesses. The small amount printed or otherwise created by Mr Muldoon’s Government is, by comparison, insignificant. In Christchurch alone several hundred private businesses create in bank credit, commercial finance and “plastic” money each year a sum which regularly exceeds the total sum of money printed, minted or created' by our Government for the entire country. — Yours, etc., JIM TIMINGS. August 29, 1980.
