Child care centres
Sir, — Sheila Walker (August 29) says that Government and council help is needed to make child care prices less , than $4O a week. This statement is not correct (as has already been stated before by previous correspondents). The very centres that are charging these high fees are already Government and council assisted, a great cost to the ratepayer and taxpayer as well as to the parent. The centres that get no help at all are the more reasonable. The only answer to help the working parent is to lower the fees m the already assisted centres, not more government assistance. May I emphasise again that the parent definitely needs the help not the already higher charging centre. — Yours, etc.,
MARGARET E. FARQUHAR. AUgust 29, 1980.
