Child care centres
Sir,—-Like S. Wright (August 27) I' feel sorry for parents who need child care and cannot afford it, but the majority of child care centres are not charitable institutions. It is a fact of life that one can only have what one can afford. Professionally qualified staff deserve a salary on which they can exist and need as much support as the parents requiring the ser•vice. The situation will only improve when the Government recognises the need for State aid to child care centres, or enlightened local authorities, such as the Christchurch City Council, which are prepared to subsidise centres which help families in need.—Yours, etc., SHEILA WALKER. August 27, 1980.
