South Ward work

Sir, — I was concerned to read in “The Press” (August 21) a statement, attributed to Sir Robert Macfarlane, that he sharply criticised me as an absentee councillor who had done nothing for the South Ward. I believe I have done quite a lot for the South Ward residents, but it is not my habit to go around blowing my own trumpet. If I can help people, I do so; and I have received quite a - few approaches from South Ward residents for assistance. Those residents who have sought, my assistance with various ward problems, or for that matter' problems in other parts of the city, know I am very approachable and interested in the South Ward’s problems and activities. My interest goes back long before the ward system. I think it is a case of the pot calling the kettle black as Labour’s mayoral candidate, Cr Mollie Clark is a resident of Waimairi County and lives a long way further than I do from the South Ward, which she represented over recent years. — Yours, etC ” P. J. SKELLERUP, Deputy Mayor. . August 22, 1980.
