1080 laid
Sir, —In reply to G. T. Martin’s letter on 1080 poison (August 18), first, I have used 1080 poison in most of its forms and applications, over several years and in both the North and South Island; Second, I quote from a Department of Health Bulletin on 1080 poison dated November, . 1963, Vol. 6: No. 11: “This very poisonous preparation is being used to a very great extent in the poisoning of rabbits.” . . . 1080 may be con-
sidered as poisonous to man as cyanide, strychnine and arsenic, but unlike these poisons 1080 does not have any identifiable smell or taste. ... There is no known antidote to 1080 poisoning and only limited first aid treatment can be given ... Because of its extremely poisonous nature, 1080 and preparations thereof have been declared to be noxious substances.” I would suggest that the public do not need protecting from those who oppose this poison but from those who advoate its widespread use. — Yours, etc., LAURIE COLLINS. August 18,1980.
