Nightwear concern
The sale of flammable nightwear has concerned the Plunket Society for more than 20 years, said the vicepresident of the society, Mrs M. Graham.
She said the society has approached the Customs Department, manufacturers and retailers in an attempt to stop the importation and sale of flammable nightwear. A remit calling for the prohibition of selling such nightwear was passed at the Plun-
ket Society’s 1972 conference.
Legislation against sales was the only answer, Mrs Graham said. While nonflammable molleton cloth was available from some retailers, it was more expensive and needed to be washed in a special solution. “People go for the more attractive, cheaper lines,” Mrs Graham said. So long as these were available, people would continue to buy them.
