$1350 for painting
An oil painting by a Russian artist, which sold for $1350, and a- sliver plate mug, which fetched $2lOO, attracted the highest bids on the second day of a two-day auction at Kaiapoi yesterday. The auctioneer, (Mr R. G. Bell) said the sale was attended by 200 people and everything offered was so.d.
A 23-piece silver lady’s vanity set, with a velvet lined" morocco leather case, sold for $1065. An early Victorian chiffoniere bookcase fetched $lO7O, and a cloisonne vase on a marble stand reached $BOO. Among the more interesting pieces, said Mr Bell, was a Victorian spirit kettle with lion paw feet, which sold for $2OO.
