Kiwanis raise $10,000
Equipment worth more than $lO,OOO has been given to? the Christchurch Hospitals intensive-care unit from proceeds of (firewood sold by the Northlands Kiwanis Club. - About 5000 people had bought trailerloads and truckloads of firewood at McLeans Island over the last three months, and more than? $ll,OOO was raised by the (club, said the' c vicepresident (Mr K. McKechie). The wood cost $2. »"• trailerload, and $5 for a truckload in the project,
which was run from April 26 ?td July 27. The club rostered 28 members on Saturdays and- Sundays to sell the wood.
The proceeds have been used to buy specialist equipment for use in the treatment of heart attacks or car accidents, and a piece of equipment to be used in the treatment of children, Mr McKechie said the club wanted to. thank the public for their support, and the North Canterbury' Catchment Board for making the wood available. ' ~
