Anti-abortion song

Sir. — The McPhail and Gadsby programme on religion brought protests and cries of “Blasphemy.” The film, “The Life of Brian,” saw people from a local church, gather outside the theatre in protest. On Sunday, July 27, at 8.40 p.m.. Radio Rhema played a song called “The anti abortion Song.” I would like to know if any other radio station would be allowed to play this? In my opinion this song is emotionally loaded, and does not even see the parents of the child, as people with feelings. Rather it screams that they are murderers. Surely, this is a personal decision, not made lightly. Children’s voices sing sweetly, and male/female voices, say “Kill it.” “We must get rid of it.” The sound of a heart beat is heard throughout, and the “bleap” of a monitor, which at the end .of the song becomes flat, signifying death.

I am appalled that anyone could record and air such a sick song. — Yours, etc., COLLEEN BELL. July 28, 1980. [Mr Richard M. Berry, national director of Radio Rhema, replies: “We are very sorry to learn that the playing of this record distressed your correspondent. We continually endeavour to respect our listeners’ sensitivity in moral and spiritual areas, and we are pleased to have this letter brought to our attention.”]
