The successful applicant will be largely engaged in the teaching of economic theory and economic statistics. The Economics Department at the University of Papua New Guinea is a small department of around eleven staff teaching certain core courses (economics theory, economic statistics, agricultural economics, international economics, economic planning and economic policy) and a variable number of optional courses including economics of socialism. The department offers accounting courses both at diploma and degree level. Teaching is biased towards policy issues in developing nations. Opportunities exist for research. Staff are expected to participate in team teaching in the Arts Faculty’s Foundation Year courses such as Political Economy, Say It With Figures, and Social Studies, and to contribute to core courses. A Programme of post-graduate studies by course-work has been introduced since 1979. SALARY: LECTURER, Grade 1: K 12.810 per annum plus gratuity. LECTURER, Grade 2: K 14,660 per annum plus gratuity.
