Flood toll over 300
Flood waters have breached the Brahmani Dam in India’s western Gujarat State drowning at least 335 people and about 3000 more from five downstream villages have been evacuated, < the Press Trust of India reported. About 500 people, in-! eluding 200 soldiers, dumped thousands of sandbags in a j bid to stop the leakage, l state Government officials 1 said. Buses and jeeps, were ready to evacuate people 1 from another 17 villages if the breach in the 30-year-o ? d dam got any worse, they said. Monsoon rains have caused flood havoc across India and killed more than 150 people over the last two weeks. — New Delhi.
